Title: Fire eels love to eat lettuce...
Description: ...or at least mine do...

Ok.....I've been putting off making this post because of the sheer rediculousness of the whole situation....however, my curriosity has gotten the better of me...and I have to ask...

Does any one else's fire eels like to eat lettuce?

We've been putting red leaf lettuce in the tank that has the fire eels, and I started noticing that the eels were hanging around the lettuce an awful lot...they would swim all over and around it, pressing their nasal tubercles all over the lettuce....For a while, I thought they were just being curious about their enviornment....however, a few weeks ago I noticed that it looked like the eel was "attacking" the lettuce....I've been watching closely now for about a week, and I have seen both of the two fire eels up at the lettuce...and yes, they are actually eating it...

Now...everything I've read on-line has stated that these fish are straight carnivores...I'm starting to wonder if they really are actually more omnivorous than prev. thought, as they REALLY like to eat the lettuce....

 Seedy, you are the luckiest eel keeper on earth :P

I have one peacock eel and the only thing it will eat is worms

 Now...only if I can train my tire-track to do that! I guess they're vegetarians...

Oddly enough, they still do it...

They also seem to like NLS, flake and Mysis, Krill, bloodworms, and brine shrimp...they get plenty of food, so I don't think they are eating the lettuce out of desperation....I guess they like the smell of it....

Well...since the two fire eels that I had starved to death :( I suspect that reason they were trying to feed on the lettuce was desperation... I didn't realize that they were not eating at the shop and I never got them feeding. Wild caugh Spiny Eels can be a real challenge to get healthy and eating...
