Title: Do you use feeders?

mr_miagi32 - March 15, 2006 09:53 AM (GMT)
Do you support the use of live feeders? I have to use some form of live food for my lionfish, who is somewhat hard to get feeding. I try to use Glass Shrimp as much as possible, but I have been known to use the odd molly.... :sook: LOL.

What are your opinions on this hot topic?

If I had fish that would take live feeders I would use them but I would grow my own, somthing like Guppys , fish that reproduce very quickly and are easy and cheap. I wouldn't want to buy feeders every week because of the possibility of introducing disease to the tank, it would be a pain in the ass to quarantine feeders for a week before using them, if you are going to have a qt tank you might as well grow your own and know that you can feed them quality, vitamin enriched food so that your big fish get the best food for them.

i have no choice but to use feeders!! my jardini cant just live on bloodworm and beefheart....my feeders consist of..guppies, mollies, danios, neons, tiger barbs and other live foods such as yabbies,crays and insects!

I voted yes. Even though I started the poll, thought id justify my answer by saying my lion fish really needs live food. After talking to several experienced reefers, its lucky i got mine feeding at all at such a small size. He is on baby mollies and ghost shrimp.

For my piscivore I do, usually rosy reds or larger white clouds, guppies are a little to small and hard to come by in good health.

Most of my tanks are set up for breeding angels, so I do end up with some culls. I bought an oscar a while back to help with this, I used to give the culls to a guy I work with to feed his oscar. I wouldn't have bought the oscar, until his died. I don't get too many feeders this way, if I do, something needs to be looked into. I raise a spawn every 6 to 12 weeks, depending on how they sell.

The oscar usually gets a couple kinds of pellets, bloodworms, beefheart and crickets once in a while. Chowing on tiny deformed angels are his way of helping me out. I don't go out of my way getting feeders when I can get crickets just as easily.

i Do use feeders,i let my hoards of bettas in my female tank pick away and stuff on them, thats for rosy reds that i buy, almost never do, i love livebearers and they breed like nuts, when i have babies, i usually end up with like 15 juveniles surviving a few months, so i feed them to bettas...

::::::::Splash!, CHOMP! upchuck. chomp again::::::::::::::::::;

|I feed my bettas crickets most often|

i have hundreds of guppies which are reproducing daily. the fry i will use as feeders for my 2 black ghost knifes. the bigger of the 2 is a fussy eater and will only eat fry or bloodworms, no matter how hard i try to vary his diet. :lol:
