Hey Guys.... I have a pretty tough question for you. I am in an area where the only places to buy fish are places like petsmart and petco. Well, I admittedly did not plan out the species I was going to have in my tank and have ultimately ended up with both Kenyi and Convict cichlid. Needless to say, they don't get along... AT ALL.
This morning I woke up and two convicts were dead and I don't want that to happen anymore. I was wondering, since petco and petsmart don't buy back fish nor do they accept them as donation (a horrible policy in my opinion), and I am a diehard animal rights believer, what are my other options for getting rid of the kenyi's? I want to keep Central american cichlids from now on... the kenyi's are just too aggressive. Suggestions PLEASE!
Thanks much.
Sorry to hear about your losses :rip: .
Options............
1 Is there a humaine society in your area? If they can't take them they may know of someone who can.
2 Run an ad in the local paper "Free to good home" or for sale for the price of the ad.
3 Set them up their own tank and wait till they die of old age.
4 Go to several different fish sites and let people know where you are and that you need to find the fish a new home.
5 See if your local High school or college wants them as classroom pets for their science classes, I re-homed several gerbils that way.
Hope this helps, Good luck!
I'll add more ideas if I think of them later.
rrrrrr
auction them off and see if anyone close to u wants to buy them
im sure glad i dont have this problem with small fish
So I woke up this morning and now one Kenyi is dead (I have one left and he's the biggest - definately the alpha male of the tank). I am sick of the bloodbath. I went to my LFS (the only one within two hours of here and worth it for the good advice). I told them I was sick of the aggressive africans and was aiming towards having a convict only species tank (pinks, blacks and maybe a marbled if I can get my hands on one). I am actually thinking of doing a genetics experiment.
Anyways, he simply suggested I buy five or six convicts and add more rockwork to the tank. I took his advice and after a few hours I am relatively happy with the situation. The lone Kenyi that I have is unable to navigate the rockwork quickly enough to catch any of the smaller convicts but I still don't want to wait around for another few years for him to die. Suggestions?
Thanks guys.
Put a little ad in the local newspaper either putting him up for sale or free to a good loving home. I'm sure another fish owner would pick him up and take care of him for you. :) Just curious, how big is your tank?
And a little heads up for the convicts, they breed like crazy!
