Title: Guppy Tumour

Jess21 - March 23, 2006 05:41 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone,

I've had my male guppy for close to a year now and over the past month he's developed this weird tumour on his tail. I tried getting a pic but he wouldn't stay still. Anyway, it started out as a small bubble and now it's all lumped up like a piece of cauliflower. It's only small and it hasn't affected his appetite. He's still quite active, constantly mating with everything in the tank. It hasn't spread to anyone else, but I would just like to know if there is any kind of medicine that can cure it. A friend of mine told me to try Melafix but a week and a half into treatment it hasn't done anything. Any suggestions?

If it's a tumor you can't treat it. :(

Sorry for the late reply. I was working all week and didn't get a chance to sign on. I stopped adding the melafix and added a little extra salt. The tumour hasn't grown, so I guess it's just a cosmetic issue. Thanks for your help or else I probably would have medicated the tank to death.

As it looks like a cauliflower then it could be Lymphocystis, which is a viral infection and isnt treatable.
It can be spread to the other fish so its up to you if you want to keep him in the same tank. These tumours can appear anywhere on the fish and only really trouble it if located on the eye or gills.

Update: The guppy with the tumour was eaten by my killer Pictus Catfish:(
