Description: ASAP

Hey everyone. I made such a stupid mistake! Saturday I purchased a pictus catfish because my little sister thought it was so cute. For the first day it just freaked out swimming around the tank. This morning when I woke up to my horror 2 of my male guppies were missing as well as one of my guppies which came from a spawn and he's probably a month old. I looked at the catfish and it's belly was huge. The only thing I can assume is that it ate my precious fish:( I read that these fish can be aggressive, but are they actually capable of sneaking up on and eating grown fish? All the fish that have disappeared were active and healthy so I really can't seem them just dying overnight. Right now I have the catfish in a spare 1/2 gallon betta bowl with a lid. I was wondering if they can live in a coldwater tank with large goldfish while I try and figure out what to do with it. Any help is desperately appreciated!

A pictus cat is a predator, it did in fact eat your other fish.

Pictus catfish eat other fish. He will grow to about 6 inches, unless you have a 55 gallon +, take him back to the fish store. And I doubt keeping him with gold fish is healthy for him.
Sorry to hear about your guppy. :(

It's my own fault for not researching this fish. Now I have 3 dead fish and an unwanted fish. I bought him from Walmart and I don't know that their return policies are. I will definately be telling them to warn customers. It said on the tank label that they were compatible with guppies and mollies. Hah! Anyway thanks for your help. It's been greatly appreciated.

You might not be able to get your money back but they should give you a store credit, they used to. You need to call them right away, if I remember right their return policy is only within 24 or 48 hours, but it's been a long time since I've dealt with them on fish.

Raise a controlled fit and ask for a manager until you get someone who can acxtually fix it for you.

I spoke to one of the workers and they only offer a 72 hour exchange if the fish dies, but the murderous creature is still living in the bowl. It's calmed down a good bit almost like he knows what he did. My boyfriend was speaking to one of his friends who bought the same fish and he has other small fish and he says his is fine, so perhaps he'll take him. I was gonna actually buy two or three, thank god I didn't. Goes to show how knowledgeable the staff is at Walmart. They almost killed two of the fish when I got him. Two got caught up in the net and the guy dropped the bag in the floor and everything. The best one I heard down there yet though was that if your water gets cloudy, add aquarium salt. I'm no expert by far, but that just doesn't make sense...

Hey everyone, got an update. I actually went back to Walmart with the fish in a baggy. I explained the story and I told them that I didn't want a refund or exchange, I just wanted the fish to have a better home. To my surprise they not only took the fish back, but I got a refund as well:)
