Title: Bruised fish, CRAP CRAP CRAP
Dwarf_Dude - April 27, 2005 10:50 AM (GMT)
i was doing work on my internal filter when the suction cups detatched from the back and fell, i thought it was no big deal but when i lifted it up my jewel cichlid father was under it, and severe bruising on the back of him, hes swimming slowly and falls on his side occasionaly,
what can i do to help him and is the bruising going to clear up?

Since bruising is an internal thing, there really isn't much you can do to directly heal the wound. Increased water changes and some aquarium salt (lower his stress) should help a little. Good luck :)

same thing happened to me DD with my male jewel, he was finding it really hard to stay up right so swimming was a no no for him but after about 2 days he was fine and started to swim again

i quikly added some salt last night before i went to bed,(i devided a the fry tank for him and added a clump of java moss on his side.
and when i found this morning he was perfect! like nothing had ever happend!
and on closer inspection of the tank, i saw that most of his fry(3-4cm)had escaped onto his side, and he was taking care of them!not bothering them at all.so i let him go and thats where he shall stay, the 25gal jewel/west african tank.so i did the same with the mother, and im about to release her soon as she is showing no signs of aggresion,
thanks for the replys

Thats really something! I was worried when I read your first post about internal injuries. I'm so glad your jewel is doing so well and being a good daddy too!
Congrats!

i woke up this morning, turned the fish tank lights on, and the little dick had his kid in his mouth! AND THE FRY WAS STILL ALIVE!
So i grabbed him and did a little push on his stomach and the fry jumped out into the tank, luckily all fry are still alive, but the evil pair are back in the main tank....just goes to show you can never trust a jewel....
