pair of red empress and a miscellaneous xentilapia (tanganikan goby cichlid?) housing them with my alouna cara and synos, seem to be doing well

EDIT: sorry seems rather vague, the question, will the red emperess and xenotilapia be fine with the alunacaras, i dont fancy risking them with my mbuna

Hey Oddball,

Xenotilapia are sand sifting cichlids from Lake Tanganyika...They have a fairly mild temperment, and need a sand substrate (non coraline). Check out xenotilapia.com for some great pics of them....

I'm not so sure about keeping haps with them, dietwise they are compatble, however xeno's are fairly mild in temperment and may get picked on...they also require a fair amount of open areas so a tank with a lot of bottom space is helpfull...

Xenotilapia are reputed to be fragile, and not competitive with other cichlids in the aquarium...Alas, I have never kept one personally. It will be interesting to see how yours will fare. Good luck with your new fish.
