They're a cool little fish!
I recently saw some of those for sale in a aquarium on blackburn road down melbourne. i may have to get them some day.
keep us updated on how they go!

Kuhlis are the bomb man. Congrats! :) They are super awsmoe fish! I would love some, but fear my eel would consume them! :P

Kuhlis are great little fish, one word of caution though:I would change out that gravel to a sand substrate as these guys really like to bury themselves and can injure themselves trying to dig in big gravel.
robert16 - April 29, 2006 07:29 AM (GMT)
Thanks guys!
Well i did have sand as substrate but it was pain in the neck to have,so i have now a mixture 80% fine gravel and 20% sand.
keep us updated on how they go! ...Will do...i have heard they can be difficult to keep, but i hope they will be fine.

i doubt that, i used to have several but had some die and got one thats about 3" long but rarely see it (hides in rocks of my axolotl tank). The lighter ones are normal, i had 3 light ones and 4 dark.

| how big do they get? |
3" seems to be common for an adult. mines supprisingly fat too cause it eats up everything from the axolotl. awesome looking! but i will say DONT keep them in a small container without a cover if your transplanting there tanks, they jump out of the water and pretty much die.
dtroup2 - April 30, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the heads up on that, I plan on getting 3-6 of them for my 55gal. Is there anything else you can tell us?
Wolfie - April 30, 2006 02:34 AM (GMT)
other then keeping them in covered containers when swapping them to a new tank (it stresses the hell out of them catching them) they seem to be extremely hardy to even changes in water quality. If you want to see them though dont use pebbles or other things like that, they hide all day and only seem to come out at night. When i had 2 of mine die from jumping out 2 survived despite being out of the water at least 35 minutes!!! i put them in water and they started moving again which shocked the hell out of me (they jumped out when i quickly went to LFS to get some filter medium).
Its rather ammusing watching them swim around though, I call mine the gould :P its like the little parasites on stargate SG-1 when they swim lol.

They're cool looking fish! why are they called talking? do they make noise out of the water or something?
robert16 - May 5, 2006 02:04 PM (GMT)
and if i get them out of the tank they croak! (the noise that is).
Thats why they are called striped talking catfish.
