Title: Ok, want to add a new friend for my fish

Aravyndra - April 29, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
I'm looking to add a new friend to my 30 gallon. The three I have in there now, My 2 blue/green Chromis Damsels and my clown, are pretty small, and so there's plenty of room. (Plus I have a larger tank if any of them get bigger.) And my 2 Chromis and my Clown all get along together pretty well, so they shouldn't be a problem with other fish.

But I'm looking for a fish that's

1. not too big, or if its bigger, won't eat other fish
2. Eats similar food (I have them eating a healthy vitamin enriched flake food)
3. Isn't aggressive
4. can hold its own against other fish if need be (is a fast swimmer)
5. is colorful
6. has a decent lifespan if taken care of (The last fish I looked at that was small and kind of pretty was $40. and according to the pet store had a 1 month life span. I'm not paying $40 for a fish that lives for a month or less. lol)

any ideas? I've gotten a few ideas from websites, but I thought I'd ask what you guys thought too to see if your choices match what I came up with to narrow it down. Thankies
:woo:

Well, this could be a long post.As im sure your aware, there are thousands of possibilities really. Do you have any particular type of fish in mind? Like gobys? They are awsome, colourful, full of character, and could go with those fish.

I just cant list all the possibilites lol.

Check out Dr Foster and Smith aquarium fish lists, and see what kind of species graps you, then we could speak specifics. :drunk:

(PS, its always awsome getting new fish eh? heheh)

That's what I thought. I had like a hundred ideas, and I was hoping people would post their favorites rather than post a list of all the compatible species. and I'd compare the fish that matched more often with the ones I had on my list and get the one that was mentioned the most. I thought that would narrow it down.

the ones I like the most are Royal Gramma Basslet, Green Mandarin, Firefish Helfrichi. Clown Goby Yellow, Spotted Cardinalfish, Scissortail Dartfish, Firefish (normal), Filamented Flasher Wrasse.

these are the ones I like the most thus far. But I'm not sure.

What do you all think?

What do you all think?

Royal Gramma Basslet: Fine. A great fish, very colourful. A touch aggresive, but hopefully not since you might add it into the tank last. (Or near the end).

Green Mandarin: Really a no go IMO with a system belwo 55gal. You'd need atleast 100kilos of top grade, established LR to keep these fish in their top form.

Firefish Helfrichi: Cool fish, need a lid though, as these are common jumpers. You could have more tha one too. (Thats one awsome benefit).

Clown Goby Yellow: Fine, non agressive, but will require more than flake, and alot of attention to notice if they are feeding. They feed on mysis, brine shrimp, or baby brine shrimp, from sometimes direct feednig. Alot more effort to keep these.

Spotted Cardinalfish: Most cardinal fish are cool, and great community fish. Would be a nice addition, especially when grouped.

Scissortail Dartfish: I am not familiar with these fish, sorry.

Firefish (normal): Cool, also the same as helfrichi. :)

Filamented Flasher Wrasse:
