Title: Plant tank

dtroup2 - April 29, 2006 11:34 PM (GMT)
I took a 1 gal hex Betta tank and put all of my Walmart bulbs in it. It came with a tiny light fixture that takes night light bulbs. I put a 7 watt clear bulb in it, so now I get to wait and see what happens.
I will post pics when the weather gets better, my camera sucks and there is no room in my house that is bright enough to take pics in without using daylight. :cuss: :pft:

It's kinda like a fry tank but for plants. This way when my tank finally gets wet  the plants will have some growth instead of just being bulbs.

The first batch of Aponogenton bulbs I bought already have signs of life :woo: I started them in a 1/2 gal peanutbutter jar.

I think I have 11 or 12 of the Aponogenton bulbs and 2 Nymphaea Lilly Bulbs, I also have some Philodendrian slips for the tank.

:congrats: hope it works out for you

i cheated a little bit, i couldn't find the bulbs at my local china*mart (wal*mart) so i went to lowes, this is what i got, 2 of them, one is a little bit smaller. though, i hat do pay, a heafty price of $9.97 each.... there goes my hopes of getting a new lighting system for my aquarium. LOL

and, oh my god, the bulb was, no kidding, about 5" long, and nearly 3" wide, verry hard to find a spot like that in my aquarium...

No Fair! :bitchslap:

:jk:

So you paid about $20.00 for 2 plants where I paid about $8.00 for 13 possible plants. I'll hold on my decision of which is the better deal until I see how many plants I actually get.

Finally there is enough light to take pics so here ya go.

Full tank shots, you can see the Philodendrian sticking out the top.

Since I don't have any fish to fertalise the plant water I'm "feeding" my plant tank betta food. Will this work?

FBG - May 2, 2006 03:34 AM (GMT)
i would use florish tabs, thats what i am using, and you saw how much it grew, also i am using osme thing called cora life fresh water plant food. it seems to work really good togather. i beleive i bought the florish tabs at petsmart, but maybe a LFS would have them.

Tyler

dtroup2 - May 2, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
My nearest LFS (not w*mart) is 60 miles away.
W*mart is 30 miles away.

I live in the sticks

FBG - May 2, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
i live 30 miles out of town, and then another 15 or so to the LFS, so, don't feel that bad......LOL.

Tyler

P.S. if that is as far you live from a LFS, then, try to incorperate the trip to the LFS with food shopping, or even when you can get fish for your 55, all the things i have to say when i wish to go to the LFS, my only sorce of transportation is my mother, or my father, but thats another story....LOL

I can sympathise, I don't drive either, I depend on hubby.

Unfortunatly the grocery store is only 8 miles away so I have to convince hubby to go to w*mart up north which is about 50 miles away, the one south (30 miles)of us is not even worth the effort.

FBG - May 2, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
well, i can't drive, but, its the law that i can't, its not a choice....LOL.

sorry to hear that. sorry, but what state do you live in?

Tyler

dtroup2 - May 2, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
I'm in Minnesota.

Up until last week the doctors wouldn't let me drive, I went to a new Eye doctor and he said that my visual field defect shouldn't keep me from driving.

FBG - May 3, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)
well, thats a good thing, if you have enough money for gas......its about $3.00 a gallon here, and in phoenix it is i beleive $3.75 some one told me.....

oh, the lilly has broken the water surface, if you care to see ill post a picture. and, it has produced a few new leaves. I think the reason it is growing so fast is due to the sive of the bulb, but I don't know......never had this type of plant before.

Don't feel bad I can't get it to work on there either. Do you have Adobe photoshop? You should be able to resize them there and then re-upload them to your account, that's what I have to do.
Good Luck!

they have weird leaves for a lilly don't they?

dtroup2 - May 30, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
I thought so to, I was expecting fairly round or oblong leaves, not arrowheads.

FBG - June 1, 2006 12:50 AM (GMT)
the ones i have, seem to have completly round leaves, and they aren't growing much, just producing leaves at the base, i think it is weird. oh, here is the picture of the lotus plant in my aquarium, before i put it in my pond.

maybe you don't even have some sort of lotus....... :duno: it's weird, i have never heard of that, or seen it for that matter, and i have also never seen that type of leaf on a lotus plant, maybe the packaging was mixed up and you got an onion type plant, i have one that sorta looks like that.

hope it all turns out for the better.
