Title: cycling without heater
Description: can i?
Sloory - April 30, 2006 11:20 AM (GMT)
G'day, i've got a 2ft tank that i want to plant out soon. it hasn't got any water in it yet and the heater that i've ordered hasn't turned up yet.
i do have a filter for it though and i was wondering if not having the heater will affect the cycle at all?
in other words can i start cycling before i get my heater in it? :?:
Thanks in advance.

Cycling without a heater shouldn't be a problem. I have run tanks in the past without heaters without problems.

Hey sloory, Just to let you know I didn't do it on my planted tank. Did you decide if your going to run co2 yet?

i don't need to use heaters in any of my aquariums. so i don't see any problem, unless you have a huge flux in the water temp ofer night.

ok thanks.
I've put the sponge out of the unwanted power filter that was in my 3ft into the filter in my 2ft so that it cycle a lil quicker.
Thanks for the reply's.
As for the co2 i am goin to but i want the least complicated way to do it.

You can cycle w/o the heater jut remember to slowly increase teh temp when you do get the heater, aka nothing over 10 F or maybe 4 C.

Sloory, there is no need to fishless cycle a planted tank. Here is a good explanation how to start a new planted tank with method that is called the Silent cycle
