Title: Seedy's & Blackmagic79's 20 Gallon Planted
Description: ...her handywork...

Seedy - May 11, 2006 10:34 AM (GMT)
This tank is the handiwork of my live in Girlfriend: (aka on some forums as "blackmagic79")
The set up is:
Tank:20 gallon standard
Light: 20 inch "Satellite Compact Fluorescent" ( 10000°K daylight and 460 nanometer actinic)
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...004+2032+113030
Substrate is 15lbs Seachem "Flourite" http://www.petsmart.com/media/ps/images/pr...0large_fa21.jpg
Filtration: Emporer 400 with "cell pore" inserts on one side, and media basket with Fluval "peat granules".
Aquascaping is petrified wood and bog wood, "rainbow rock" pebbles, as well as a slightly hidden broken terra cotta pot.

I'm not sure on what all the plants are, but I know there is some spreading grass of some kind, marble queens, a red ruben, java fern and some other swords...

Currently, one golden CAE that was starting to get to aggresive for the communtiy tank, just to get the bio load going...He'll get given to my buddies LFS as soon as I know what I want in there...

I'm looking into maybe some wild M. ramzeri or maybe some "Apistos" for fish..

Tyler, I myself am very new when it comes to putting plants in aquariums...

I have to admit that my Girflfriend is the one that knows about plants, so yes, I'd be interrested in seeing what information you have...

ok, lol.

for one thing, they will get big, and with a big plant, they need a big root system, and big or a lot of leaves to gather what they need. (photosynthisys (spelling?) to grow. so, in other words, they need some space to grow out fully. so it is basicly like a garden, you can't plant plants too close or the biggest plant will kill off the weaker plant. so, in order to keep the plants alive, i would space them out at least, i duno.....5" apart. ( I think that is what i was told, i am recounting what this guy that works in the plant section of my LFS he is very knolageable but it has been a while, so if i am incorrect in any of this, please noteify me, and i will make sure to correct it. )

sorry if i am incorrect on any of this, (but i beleive i am correct mostly :banghead: )

I think you may have a good point...I brought this up to her, but she doesn't like waiting for the plants to "fill in"....we'll see how it works out for us....
