What are your water paramaters?
Ph
Nitrate
Nitrite
Ammonia

Is he gasping at the surface?
How often do you do water changes?
Have you added any new fish or plants or anything that could have introduced disease?

Sometimes goldfish will change colors for no apparent reason, I had one fantail that went from gold to white with a gold spot and lipstick.

I'm moving this to Fish 911, our disease experts will be more likely to see it there.

It sounds like septiceamia which can be due to nitrites, stress or a bacterial overload.
Id say as well that your tank is overstocked. How much and how often are you doing water changes and do you gravel vac?
