What size tank do you think is the minimum for a pair of jags to be kept in for life?
according to an article titled "Giant Predatory Cichlids, THE TRUE GUAPOTES" By Paul V. Loiselle, male managuense can reach up to 50cm(roughly 20 inches) and females can reach up to 40 cm. so i would say at least a tank that is at least 2 feet wide and 6 feet long would be appropriate. keep in mind it would also be a good idea to have the tank divided so that the female could come and go as she pleases but if the male should get violent he could not pursue her, this can be achieved by cutting a hole in the divider that she can swim through but he could not. also i would like to point out that i have never kept these guys let alone tried to breed them. i am just making somewhat educated statements based on info i have read over the net. i am sure someone else here would be able to help out abit better than i as we have alot of great fish keepers here.:)
yeah i'd prefer not to use a divider unless i have to because they are a bit ugly but i suppose i may have to!
i hear ya'. maybe try it with out one, but have one ready in case problems flare up.
From everything I have read you will need a divider once they reach maturity. Unless of course you can work out a good 500 gallons or more, even that may not work out. Remember breeding makes thing far more stressed.
