here is my pond, it is close to 210 gallons, it holds 10 gold fish and 6 rosy minnows, and i plan on the dang birds eating some of them. (i bought 4 american flag fish at my LPS (local pond store lol) and they were gone with in the first night, but the gold fish seem to be fine so far (knock on wood)) oh, and i plan on putting rocks arround the edge and in the pond, i just havent gotten around to doing it yet

here is a picture of the top most pool of my pond, it wont hold any fish, just some grass (pic below) and there will be a lot of rocks to make it an actual water fall look-a-like.

here in the second pool, and the last one, i will getthis one lined, because i did a bad job with the concrete. it will also have grasses and maybe a few white cloud minnows.

here is Acorus gramineus 'ogon' i know nothing about this plant, besides the fact it gets 8-18 inches tall, and it is susposed to grow out here  .... .

user posted image here is a really cool plant called canna sp. orange. it grows 48-72 inches tall, and has red flowers, my dad use to have it all arround his pond. it all most over took over a small tree we had growing by our pond. LOL, it was actually a really cool pond back when my dad had it going. it would be a lot nicer when the water fall is opperational, and when i get it planted, i didn't have enough funds to get every thing i needed, though i had a great pump all ready, though i have no idea what the brand is, and what the GPH is, though it will drain the pond in about 15 min, so, that would be.....what, 420 GPH???? i came up with 104 GPH, but, that dosn't equate to the drainage time......LOL. but yeah, this is my pond so far. i will post more pictures when i get every thing finished.

and the sad thing is, i have to move in 5 months.....and take every thing out and redo it again......LOL. but this is a good thing, it makes me get outside, and be active during the summer.

so, good night to all,

Tyler

oh, i forgot to post some pictures of my water lettuce, i'll have to get some when the sun is up.

oh, the gold fish aren't comming up for food, is there a way to teach them to come up and expect food when I am doing stuff arround the pond?or, will they wait till they are hungery and demand food when i am out there, or will they come up to the birds _-_ ??? lol

thanks.

Tyler

FBG - May 29, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)

It's looking good Tyler!
Wether or not the birds get the fish is mostly dependant on if the fish are smart and fast enough to dive!
If you were'nt mooving soon I would suggest building a screen room around it, that would definatly keep the birds out.

Can't wait to see more pics!

ok, so we had some trees that we had negletced for a while, still in pots, and are not about 12 or 13 feet tall, here is a picture of one of the trees that will be goign arround my pond

here is a picture of the leaf formation.

ok, so today i made a level spot for some plants.and some seating, and possibly a table ( I also plan on getting some solar lighting and putting them arround it)

user posted image

from right where i am standing, i am planning on planting a few shrubs, so i block off the path, and maybe cut back this huge plant, but not too much, it's a cool plant :D

user posted image

and, the other tree, i plan on putting here (if we don't move as soon as i thought)

(this one is long dead, the tree i am replacing.)

i am setting up the 'water fall' today, so i will have some more pictures after i finnish that.

Looks like an awesome project!

FBG - May 30, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
thanks shadow!

ok, so, i didn't get to finnish every thing today, but i have to now get rid of the concrete in the bottom most pool and just lay the liner in it, this is what i did today.

1. I got rid of all the rocks around the bottom pool.

2. I got rid of the bricks, and added all of the rocks to edges.

3. I actually saved one gold fish from a bird, but i don't think it's going to make it, he now has no right fin, and looks like he has stopped swimming. (LOL, not like i don't know why he has, it must be hard LOL  )

I will try and get some pictures of the fish before they grow too much.

Looks good!
You might try stocking it with larger, heavier fish. Somthing the birds can't carry off. What kind of birds are you having trouble with?
You also might try hanging a silouette of a hawk from a tree. Supposedly if you put a hawk silouette in your window it keeps birds from flying into the window so it might work by the pond.

they aren't that big, (the birds) and the only fish that i have seen them try to get, and the mediumish size fish. all six rosy minnows are in there, i have only lost one fish, so, that is good that they are getting smarter. i'll post more pictures later on today.

ok so, this is what i did today.

i put the six rosy minnows in here, and they are looking really good.

oh, and lol, i was trying to take some pictures of the fish, but it didn't turn out verry well, they are all blury, so, i'll try and take some pictures when i do a partial water change. (do you know how often i should do a water change? (is it like an aquarium, every two weeks?)
