ok, a dumb question guys, but what is the best way to keep a pond clear, w/o putting tablets in the pond?
i was told to put bunched plants in to put oxygen in the water and to out compete the algae,is this true, and if so, how is the best way to 'pot' these plants, and what is the best soil to use?
well, thanks in advanced.
Tyler
In my experience the only way to guarantee a clear pond is a UV light. Direct sunlight will always encourage green water and the UV light will kill the spores. Barley straw is another one that supposedly clears the water but I've heard of more failures than success with it.
Ditto Cichlas. Also solid filtration really helps. My pond filter turns over the pond 7 times an hour & I use an algacide once every 3 months to control any green-hair algae growth. Keeps it clear as crystal. Incorporating the UV filter as Cichlas recommended will take it to perfection & is a really good idea imo.
heh, my dad just brought home a pool filter (one that does 1900 gallons an hour, which i think is a WAY over kill.) and we are going to hook it up tomorrow, or tuesday, i'll add pictures when it is finnished. and, ok, i will do that, but, i duno if i will be abvle to gat a profssional out here w/o paying over $100 dollers, if thats what you mean :P
