Description: Euthanasia Advice Needed

Salomon - June 8, 2006 06:10 AM (GMT)
We just found our sick, sinking Tetra caught in the plant. He had an injured swim bladder and he had his tail chewed off. We want to euthanize it immediately with the clove oil method, but only have rubbing alcohol at the moment. Will the rubbing alcohol work? Any other advice? We already have the clove oil but haven't diluted it yet.

If you have the clove oil you can put the fish into a coffee cup and add 3-4 dropps of the clove oil to the water in the cup, after a few min if the fish is still alive add 3-4 more drops.
Another method I have read about is to put the fish into a cup and add an alka-seltser tablet, this will suffocate the fish.
There is also the freezer method, place the fish in a zip-lock and place in the freezer.

From what I understand the clove oil method is the most humane.

Sorry to hear that you have to do this but it is the best thing for the fish. :rip:
