If I give the wild harvested plants a bleach soak and then a rinse soak with dechlorinator will the plants be safe to put into my tank or do I need to isolate them for a while first?

I'm not sure but i think you should try isolating them and see how hey go for a while. maybe throw in a sacrificial fish to see if it will harm the rest.

Hi dtroup, there is no need to rinse them with dechlorinator. Preapare a water bucket, fill it with water (22'C-28'C), add house hold bleach, 1 part of bleach (don't use bleach that has lemon, orange or any kind of scent) to 20 parts of water. Leave the plant in there for no more than 2 min. Take them out and rinse them with not too cold tap water until the bleach smell is gone.

Sloory said that you should do a test with the poor fish...do not do that. Responsible fish-keepers don't expose their pets to danger. Join responsible fish-keeping!

yeah, i wouldn't sacrifice any of my fish, here is a story, if you care to read it;



ok, so, today i had a little problem with my pond which required me to drain it, well, i was cleaning it out while waiting for the water level to go half way down, (i had to patch a small hole i made :() i looked at every scoop of leaves, debris (we had our first real thunder storm yesterday and a lot of water rushed into my pond :( along w/ leaves, dirt, and other stuff) and,i happened to forget to look at this one, and i scooped out a 10cent feeder minnow, i cussed for the first time, and jumped the fence where i saw the fish 'fly' over, and grabbed it, and took it inside to my QT and gave it some stresscoat, and a little melifix (it had a little dammage, as you could imagin after being dropped from 4 feet.) well, it has so far been good, but, i was like "oh shit! how could i be so dumb!?!?!" i litterly jumped the fence w/o touching it with my little fish net in my hand, (i could see where that could make a interesting picture) and grabbed the fish by the middle (i have heard it breaks their backs if you grabed their tails) and ran inside with it in my hand, my mom said, what the matter w/ you?!

so, yeah, my little story.
