Title: Damn computer is out of memory...
Vip - June 26, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
Well ive deleted heaps and heaps of videos and pictures from my computer, but it still says only 900mb remaining and its only a 80gig hard drive. At the moment all it really has is just the net and my DVD programs. Is there any other way of wipeing my hard drive clean insted of formatting it? some sort of program to delete the deleted files?
Anyone here good with computers as it would be a great help, I will make you a moderator!
not....

Deleting the deleted files won't help mate. Have you emptied the recycle bin? If you have then the deleted files won't be taking up any space that is reported as free space anyway. You just need to be more harsh with the delete button :boxer:

If emptying your recycle bin doesn't help you can burn your DVD stuff to DVDs and then delete them too.

the thing that messes my cpu ip, and it is even worse if you have an older cpu, is deleting the older ISP versions, i use AOL (i know it sucks.....) every version takes up 200 MB. and, pictures take up a lot of space, 1 MB per pictuer for me.....:D
Hope you get it solved quickly!

Is your HD partitioned?. Many are, and you may be deleting stuff from one section clearing space however veiwing the freespace of the other (which wont change until you actually delete something). Bit of a longshot but worth mentioning incase it's the prob because if your deleting files you should be seeing some change in freespace.

You guys dont understand, my computer now has nothing on it, no pictures, no videos, no nothing, just the net and its out of space. Useing the Recycle Bin only shinks what you delete, I have this new program called the Incinerator witch is used like the bin only it deletes them from your hard drive as well, but I found out about it to late...
dtroup2 - June 28, 2006 07:49 AM (GMT)
You might try e-mailing glaive, he might be able to help.

 I like it mate, you got nowt on there other than the net! No windows then? :dunno: If you aint got room you aint got rid of everything....lol. Temporary internet files? Have you got it set to use every bit of disk space available?
I'm not sure what you are on about with the recycle bin and incinerator. When you delete a file, it goes in the recycle bin (and still takes up the space on your hard drive). When you empty the recycle bin, it deletes the files and it doesn't use up space and the space it did use is reported as free space again. Incinerator, I assume, just overwrites the part of the hard disk that was used by your deleted file with rubbish so that "in theory" no-one can recover it. However, it doesn't create anymore free space than you had before. Infact, you will have less free space, 'cos you just installed another program :hmm:

Try going into your system tools and doing the disk cleanup. Then defrag the harddrives. It helped me when I had that problem.
FBG - June 29, 2006 02:05 AM (GMT)
make sure you use disk sweep as well, it will free up your disk space as well.......:P

Recycle bin just just stores compressed files when you delete whats ever in there, am I right?

Nope. The recycle bin just keeps the files you have deleted until you empty the recycle bin. Once you empty it, the files are gone and the space they took up is freed up again. You can set the size of the recycle bin and when it reaches it's limit it will permenantly delete the oldest files in there so that it can keep the most recent deletions.

Hey loser butt... have you tried emptying out your history cookies passwords data cache...? Or whatever, how about cleaning up your registery editor? =) Hopefully that helps you and your hard drive out... You could also try defraging it c(=
You and your loser brain might not know how to defrag so I'll post how c(=
start>all programs>accessories>System Tools> Disk Defragment
Yes, I practically memorized it >.<
P.S. Where's my moderating thing now?!?! xD

CacheCleaner can get rid of crap in the cache folders and other places where old files no longer needed might be. Just make sure you don't delete anything you don't want lost. It has an option to save specific cookies from deletion so I'd make sure to keep the needed ones. The first time I used it, it deleted around 1.2 gigs of junk.
The way the recycling bin works is it takes file you delete and holds them there. It's mostly useful if you accidently delete something then realize you didn't want to. Saves you from having to go find a way to restore it. If you empty the recycling bin though, everything in it is gone as far as the OS is concerned and it will free up that much harddrive space on your computer.
If you have a 80 gig drive and deleted all that crap and still have only 900 megs left, something is wrong with your computer.
NurthinAziz - July 18, 2006 09:30 PM (GMT)
In my opinion, I wouldn't suggest you use any programs that can delete your registry... I.E. HiJackThis Unless you really know waht your doing, otherwise pose your log here or somewhere else and we may take a look at it

Step one right click on your recycle bin and pick properties.
Drag the slider from 10% to 1%.
Hit apply and then Ok.
do the following step for all windows profiles.
Step two open internet explorer. Click on tools at the top and pick internet options.
Look for temporary internet files and hit the settings button change the value to 20 hit apply and ok.
Lastly open my computer. Right click on your C drive, maybe local C, pick properties.
Hit disk clean up. Make sure all check boxes are checked except the last two.
Hit ok and let her rip, may take a long time. PS yes you are sure.
After that finishes check your free space, if it it is at 20% or better then run defrag, if not delete some porn and try again.
Anything that replaces the recycle bin is wasting space.

Take a picture and right click it, then click set as background or something similar to that... That should be another way of doing it
