our betta has been flaring a good bit recently. when we turn the light out in the room and leave his tank light on he will flare for a minute or two, sometimes he will flare at feeding times, or when someone is near the tank.
is this a sign of stress? or a sign of a happy betta? hes very active always swimming around, hes hardly ever sitting still.
the danios had to go though, the person who said that 10 gallons was too small for danios was right. they began nipping at the bettas fins and stressing him out, so i did an emergency transfer into my dads 55gal tank. they have been doing well ever since. we still have two danios in the tank though and i have seen them on occasion nip at our bettas fins, so they are about to get the boot.
also it has been getting rather warm in his tank, our room doesnt have central heating and air like the rest of the house and we cant run our big wall unit all day. the tank goes from 80-85 degrees during the day while we are at work. then cools off at night.
would any of these things cause stress? any input?
Flairing at feeding time and when you walk by is just his way of acnologing you and is a good sign. jay I also wouldn't worry about him flairing when you turn off the room lights, he notices the change.
As long as the temprature change is gradual it shouldn't be a problem, in nature water temps fluxuate day and night.
It sounds like he is a very happy Betta. jay
On the temp. change you might want to kick up your tank heater to 80.Bettas LOVE the heat.80 to 85 is heaven for a betta. If your tempature is going thru a 10 degree flux from day to night ,then that's another reason to kick up the heater temp.Such a large flux in temp can make the betta more suscepible to deseases and parasites.
Flaring sounds perfectly normal and happy.
it stays between 80 and 85, at night its 80 (tara and i sweat to death in bed) and during the day it gets up to 85.
so cool i guess were on the right track. :thanks:
