I just got some new fish. Puffers and eels. The puffers were eating the fins off of my dragon fish. So, I moved him - to a tank with the flipping eels in it. Then I found him on the floor out of the tank. So, put him in a hospital tank.
Then I went down today to check on him and my pleco was on the floor. Same tank as the peacock eels. Are the eels doing this? So, put him in the hospital tank.
What tank would you keep your eels in? I have one with puffers, one with convicts (all males) one with afican cichlids or leave them in the tank now with an afican and two silver dollars. Which would mean a new home for the dragon and pleco when they recover (if they do).
Any advise....please help!!!!!
I don't know much about eels...... But, I am ready to take them back to the lfs
I'm not an expert but from what I understand some eels don't like fish similar in shape which could be why it chased the dragon fish out of the tank, another thing I have read freequently is that eels and dragon fish are escape artists and are commonly found outside the tank, so you need to make sure that you have a tight fitting lid on which ever tank you have them in.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
yep, I found a picture of what they look like on the net and they are called rope fish also. And yes they are good at getting out. I still think they somehow flung my other fish out of the tank. Anyway, I am now trying to decide on taking them back or closing up the tank good.
ps: the pleco and dragon fish didn't make it. They were both dead this morning. To bad, I really thought the dragon looked better last night. Oh well, live and learn. I guess the key is to research before getting a new fish. I just thought they looked so cool and if I didn't get them at the time, they would be gone next time I went.
Sorry they didn't make it :rip: .
I have been tempted to get an eel but my big tank is open topped so I can't have an escape artist, but I would love a tire track eel. One of my 10gal tanks has a screen top but 10 gal isn't big enough :pft: , oh well.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
