Title: ID on fish in a LFS

Vip - April 29, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
It was green and orange and had very sharp teeth it was about 10" long but i dont know if thats how long they get, it looked like any other fish out there ie: not trigger looking or anything. Can anyone post some names for me please.

Flat and plate shaped or more like a bass in shape? With no picture I will definitely need a very detailed discription...

I am at work now but will skim through my reference materials when I get home and see if I can come up with some possibilities.

I am kinda thinking Parrot Fish at the moment though, maybe do a search and see if this is a possibility and get back with me on it? If its a Parrot fish they make nice fish and are colorful but not reef safe and most get huge! Ie...as in like 30 inches plus although I am sure there are a few that are a bit smaller in size. It is not reef safe becuase it will bite off, yes bite off coral branches and munch on them spitting out the calcerous material and swallowing the soft fleshy polyps and coral skin. This is one of the ways rubble is created natrually in the ocean in addition to storms and wave action creating rubble and sand.

Is it a herbivore carnivore or omnivore is it aggressive?

With the info given if its not a triggerfish then Parraot Fish is my next best idea Vip. I have poured through dozens of books and that about all I am coming up with...that looks as though it could be a possible match....

sturgen?

Ritsuko Nashida - May 1, 2005 02:03 PM (GMT)
Sturgen...I dont really think so, I have caught a couple of these behemoths on Rod and reel and neither had much in the way of color other than drab gray and white and looked rather prehistoric...maybe there is something out there I havent seen!

Have you checked out the Parrot Fish profile I have done in the folder that was set up? If thats not it you got me stumped and good at that!
