Title: salt question

OK, I know that some catfish are sensitive to salt.
Are Green corries and Pictus among those who don't tolorate salt?

And how about Kuhli loaches?

Why are you wanting to add salt. Are you trying to treat something. Most fish really don't need it unless you are trying to treat ich. I only use it at these times even with my livebearers.

For the corries and Kuhli I am just asking for future refrence, but for the Pictus I am asking because I'm planning to turn the tank into a cichlid tank and from what I understand they need salts in their water.

dtroup...well....if you are thinking of going with Rift Lake Cichlids you are probably going to have to completly overhaul that tank as the substrate and drift wood will prove problematic....

Remember: "salt" is more than just NaCl (Sodium Chloride aka table-salt)...a "salt" is really just any combination of a base and an acid...The "salts" that replicates the conditions of the rift lakes include salts of Magnesium, Potasium, Calcium and of course Sodium...

Really though...the Kuhlis will not like the hardness of pH of the water that Rift Lake Cichlids prefer....pluss...most Cichlids I know of would love to eat a kuhli...

The kuhli is in the 10gal with the livebearers so it isn't in danger of becoming cichlid food.
I'm about to the point of trying to forget everything I have tried to learn about cichlids and start over by researching each lake until I find the ones that are compatable with my setup.
It seems like the more I research the more confused I get. :banghead:
I used to be a good student, but I'm beginning to think I'm getting too old for this shit.

With your current set up in the 55, I think I'd be looking at some of the smaller South American species...they tend to like softer, more nuetral to acidic water....Also, try looking at some of the "African Riverine Cichlids" for that tank...
