Title: babies and goldfish
Description: can I put babies and a goldfish together

I have about 15-20 baby swordtails in a breeding box thing in the corner of my tank. Both the parents are in there along with 4 neon tetras. I have a separate tank with a single goldfish. Will the babies pick on it? ( they are about 1/2 inch long, about 2 weeks old.) Or will the goldfish eat them? please, I need help, I want to give them more room, but I don't want to lose them all or my goldfish. Any suggestions??? :woo:

If the goldfish is large and fast enough...it will eat the fry.

Welcome to TFC!! :D

I wouldn't suggest it because the goldfish will consider them a snack. If they are bigger than their parents mouths it would be ok to release them with the paarents, but until then I'd just leave them in the breeder box, or you could invest in a piece of plastic screen and use it as a divider in the parent's tank.

You can always put the goldfish in a large tub or somthing outside, they thrive in rain and coldwater but not to good in warm water.
Ive had my goldfish in a 40g tub outside for 2 years now and its stong and healthy.

Its not recommended to mix tropical fish with goldfish

Goldfish wont live for long in wamer water temperatures... where as the swordtails do much better in the warmer conditions!

I would throw (not literally) the goldfish in a bucket... and just have something to aerate the water.. a bubbler or ever a small powerhead

and yes.. the goldfish would eat the babies if it will fit in its mouth :P
