Title: My Pond

Struvas - July 27, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
Having massive problems at the moment with tmy garden pond. Is been established for years. No filter as its too far away from the house. But over the years it has been stocked with various fish that have been eaten by the heron. Recently I have been giving the garden some attention, and decided to trim some of the plants which have been getting out of have throughout the last years. I came to look at it this mornin and found that it had a leak!!! :cuss: So im gonna have to re-line it and i have decided to completely redo the pond. I will post pics soon.

Well were getting there now. Its been recarpetted, relined, filled with water and now some fish which after much consideration I have now got 6 koi which I have always wanted, there are also 7 goldfish, and 3 tench and my ghost carp (silver koi) from my aquarium, just started planting it up and am hoping to make a beach with some stones etc. Pics will be coming just have to sort my digital camera out first. Again I havent got a pond filter I do really want one but its just too far from a power source plus its always nice not to have one as it encourges some wildlife. Already got frogs toads, dragonflies postskater and the odd newt though! Wahoo :drunk:

Oh and yes the pond is roughly twice the size it was, not easy as I had to dig out the ground consisting of hard clay, and also rip oyr all the established plants but I thing it has paid off. Whats the easiest way to tame the koi. You seem them at places swimming over and sucking fingers etc, and I want that. they all dive deep when I walk over.

It will take some time to "tame" them, you need to start by feeding them at the same time of day every day, as they grow accustemed to eating at a regular time you can start holding food pelets out to them.
It is a long process but you will probably find it very rewarding, I had 3 fantail goldfish that ate from my hand and would spit rocks at the glass by my chair if I was late feeding them, lol.
