so my friend recently gave me an old tank he found in his garage, which seems to be a rather randomly sized 11.5 gal (at least that's what the internet told me when i entered the measurements). i'm not sure i have a place to set it up right now as i'm leaving for college in a little over a month, but when i do get a chance i'd like to have a group of maybe 5 girls. i already have 1 boy (walter) in a cycled 5.5 gal who is happy as can be, but i've never owned any females. i know they need a lot of plants and places to hide and will fight for a little while until they get their whole social structure figured out, but is there anything else i really need to know? i just want to make sure this gets done right whenever i get around to it :)
Don't get females from petsmart...they're evil. They kill eachother and other tankmates. I have a 29 gallon with 6 girls, a few rasboras, and many catfish and they get along wonderful. Of course you have the tail slapping, fin nipping and fighting at the beginning. But if it continues for over a week, take out the fish and add them one at a time every five minutes or so...it works...lol or just take out the problem female and go off from there and see what happens.
That's pretty much it. :D
