Description: will i succeed?, day to day info heh

day 1 and 2:::::::::::::::::::

Day 1::::: I am a breeder, and no i wont waste money and fancy tailed bettas or bettas from breeders, i bought these bettas which are mutts, but they are world class mutts, at a world class proffessional fish store. i bought a normal tailed male mutt truly splashed with my colors, and 2 females dark-blue.i have 2 two gallons both w\ filters- real filters. i hope i do well Females are eating-only flakes- and male isnt..... yet

Day 2::::: i lost a female to the filter, the block was missing, i have added a net mesh piece to the input for the other female's safety. i moved the two tanks to a better holder. But until i have all the supplies required for breeding, the male and female tanks shall not be visible by the other. the female still eats, but is less active from the loss of her friend. male won't ( stubborn typical male betta )

jay I hope you have good luck with the breeding.
As far as getting the male to eat, what have you tried offering him? My daughters ate almost anything I threw in the tank, crushed reptile sticks, tropical flake, betta pelets, shrimp pelets, and algae that I was growing for my sailfin pleco. I have heard of success with fresh bloodworms and other fresh foods.
It might not be a bad idea to let the male see the female, it might encourage him to eat in preperation for breeding, couldn't hurt to try. :dunno:

I usually start my bettas off with live food such as crickets, sometimes feeders, but most often i feed em livebearer fry that are crowding growing tanks and\or too small for the group. hmm, maybe i should put him up near them femalesi'm planning on adding him to a 5 gallon my mom had, and using it for the breeding.
Also planning on adding some platys to my gourami tank, some fry will agitate them for breeding. Nice and tasty meat for strength and durability of breeding.

::::::::::::::::DAY 3:::::::::::::::

The female i have remaining seems to be doing fine, and the tank is clean. although some left over food sinks and stays there ( a real filter for a 2 gal. tank has quite some water movement ) i am think of adding a kuhli to her aquarium ( i have done that before ) but i need some wall for around the lid.. maybe a few inches of cardboard so the kuhli doesnt jump outthe java moss and anacharis I have in there have spread quite a bit, and the water sprite i have floating has spread alot. Since the loss of her tankmate she has stopped going in her favorite spots- near small architecture and a spot where the gravel forms a crater.
She is still very happy though, and her fins are a very vibrant red. she has grown about 1 mm since i got her. due to an increase in size she is starting to nibble at pellets.

The male still will not accept food. He is starting to look at food, but he still declines it, wont even nibble it. his tank is starting to get a greasy layer on the top of the water from disposed food. I am going to move him into the 5 gallon today, and move the female next to him. and i am going to add a heater, and a few cories tomorrow. hopefully they will calm him down, and the cories will dispose of bad food. since my budget is... nothing atm, i will only be able to add those cories and heater.. monday, as well as the females kuhli. i might be able to add more females to keep my one company monday as well. but if not, the next time i'd be able to do anything will be sunday the 13th ( hopefully my luck pulls through and i get good fish and my betta chooses to eat ( if not before then on that day ) ). i can use 1$ i have to add some feeders to his tank, they will both agitate him to eat, and feed of the food he does not eat. Plus the pittar patter of active fish will calm him down and make him feel more at home. But for now the options are open.

You shouldn't put Kuhlis in 2 and 5 gallons. Even though they are small they are EXTREMLY active and need at least a 55 gallon to swim in. I have a huge 4 inch kuhli in my 55 gallon and it's fun to watch him zip around in my tank. lol

How are you seting up your betta breeding tank?

Snowy - August 5, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
Well, i have a lot of things today, the 5 gal, setting up a goldfish aquarium for my mom,.. water changes.. moving water from my goldfish aquarium + my goldfish to my moms tank ( my tank had tons of algea ) as well as cleaning out quite a few tanks. and im being overrunned by java moss and water sprite.., broke clay pots for all my aquariums for future bought bottom feeders. etc.
i still need one rather large decor for my 5 gal aquarium ( bowfront ) which so far only has gravel, a half clay pot, and a shipwreck decor-no water- for the female to hide during mating, im thinking i should set up some plastic plants?

as for the kuhlis... maybe not in a 2 gal, maybe not kuhlis.., but i require a bottom feeder for my small tanks, or else do you think white clouds, and \or feeders could do a nice job getting excess food?

sorry, i am currently unable to provide photos, but if i were to take photos of my aquariums, they'd be alot a :kewl:

The 5 gallon i currently have is more.. community that breeding, i will be buying a 5.5 gallon for breeding them instead in a few weeks, the 5 gallon i have shall be a female tank, and the 2 gallonsare for my males that.. ill end up purchasing a ton of.

my gouramis will have either a 29 gallon or a 35... or inbetween, i will stick female bettas in with them, more gouramis, and paradise ( ima labyrinth fan ok? ) ( i got these ideas from reading about shadow elites aquariums. LOL watch out shadow i think you might have a fan ) and i will be setting up the aquariums tonight, i will info you on there reactions to aquarium living, in the day 4 post, this is just an idea update, i will probably be breeding them in... 5 weeks at most, so i guess now its more of a preparation guide ( my bettas are small and so is my budget, they need to grow )

dAY 4::::::::::::::

My female is still doing fine, and i have recently aquired about 25$$ for more females, bottoms feeders etc. I believe i will have to buy some female platys, so for 3, that means im down to 20$ cash,and i will buy 2 females, so im down to 12$ then, and as for corys,, ugh i need to think badly, maybe some ghost shrimp would be good clean up? PLEASE RESPOND< I NEED SOME HELP<

The male still wont eat, which is why im gonna get platies for him to eat fry,
and ghost shimp cleanup crew for his tank BUT I AM GETTING WORRIED.
please, if you can RESPOND

Never mind, so far i have to say i am not ready for breeding bettas, at least.. my budget isnt ready

just have way too much going on, and the fact that i got school in 7 weeks, im just overfilled, i will take my plans, one at a time

dtroup - August 6, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
I would go with corries for clean-up crew.

Snowy - August 6, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
