Title: Youth's labyrinth fish journey
Description: info from now til the 1st month of 40Gal
Snowy - August 16, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
I am now entering my second week of keeping a labyrinth fish only aquarium which is currently 10 gallons, and the fish have adapted to their new home, the 2 three-spot gouramis, the 2 paradise fish, and the 3 female bettas are all getting along great and the pecking order is as followed
gourami heirarchy
paradise fish are left out of the pecking order
bettas are pestering each other but leaving the others alone
for the first 4 days the female bettas were in the aquarium they hid out in the back unable to see but now they are almost as active as the gouramis and paradise fish.
I am currently thinking of bottom feeder clean-up fish for the aquarium.

mr_miagi32 - August 27, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
And is this all in the 10Gallon?
Snowy - August 27, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
no, some of the fish in that list are going to be in the 40 gallon, and i will upgrade it to a 75 gallon after awhile and add the other fish.
The only stuff in the 10 gallon are two small gouramis, 3 female bettas and 2 small paradise fish..,
in the 40 gallon,i will add
the dojo and kuhli loaches
pearl and dwarf gouramis
the female bettas will be removed and they shall have there own tank
and 2 more paradise fish.
when i upgrade to 75 i will add,
the clown loaches
the kissing gourami
and there MIGHT be corydoras, as i plan to breed them but i will probably put the cory fry in a 10 gallon with the female bettas
vTEC - August 28, 2006 07:02 AM (GMT)
do yourself a favour and dont put ANY fry in with bettas :P
They eat them all
Snowy - August 28, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
lol, not gonna, im talking juvies, like.. 2 cm long cories,
ShadowElite951 - August 28, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)
They still might eat their eyes out. I've had that happen...
Poor little Rasboras... ;-;
Snowy - August 28, 2006 05:01 PM (GMT)
thats why i grow a TON of plants because if i breed bettas, there will be so many female bettas i would need to put in tanks, and the plants will protect the little baby cories.
Snowy - September 5, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
UPDATE - i bought a 29 gallon and decided to lighten the stock,
UPDATE - not going to breed bettas, lightens the load
2 blue gouramis ( not permanent )
3 paradise fish, 2 albino, 1 blue
3 pearl gouramis
1 kissing gourami size 2-3 inches ( not permanent )
3 kuhli loaches
The 10 gallon that holds them now i will have,
6 female bettas
1 male dwarf gourami
In a few years when the blue gouramis and kissing gourami outgrow the 29 i will get a 55 gallon and the inhabitants will be
1 kissing gourami
3 three spot gouramis-1 gold, 2 blue-
2 dojo loaches
a pleco
the stand is well on its way to be made and the 29 gallon shall be on top and the 10 gallon below.
i will post a pic of the stand as soon as i find the digi cam
Snowy - September 11, 2006 01:16 AM (GMT)
The tank is up and running :woo:
i am using, two 10 gallon filters ( kinda low i know but im a naturalist )
no heater
light is a... 20W flourescent
the water teampeature sticks at 77 degrees F
and umm.. same inhabitants as there were in the 10, i still have to set-up the 10 gal for female bettas
I will not be adding new inhabitants for a few weeks
Here is the 10gal tank plans
6 female bettas, the rule for me is, 3 gallons per 1 and another 1 gallon per other, so that takes up 8 gallons
1 male dwarf gourami of undecided type-another 2 gals
and that fills up all 10 gallons

Sweet set-up Youth!
Are you doseing with ferts of any kind?
Your Java Moss looks great!
:kewl:
Snowy - December 26, 2006 10:24 PM (GMT)
No ferts, Dot, I have a ton of java moss.. my two gallon betta tanks are filled, the ELB tank is about 1/7 java moss.. and holy cow, is my 29 filled.
Snowy - January 28, 2007 10:49 AM (GMT)
Update:The java moss and algae took over. It's so bad, the fish are literally getting strangled in the java moss. Probably lost quite a few of them because of that. I'm going to have to tear down the tank (sort of) and fix it up a bit.
Edit: I removed all the decor and java moss, it turns out that all I lost were 1 albino paradise fish.. and the blue albino paradise fish. They were nowhere to be found.
Edit: I have a HUGE amount of java moss, all the fish look fine. My Endler's had a few problems as well, missing some of them. Filter went out for a week and I didn't notice and the java moss grew out as well, :pft:
will continue to edit as I disassemble the tank.
Snowy - August 1, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
Well, finally got to disassemble the tank.
Still have the two blue gouramis, the pearl gourami, and 2 kuhli loaches.
The java moss had completely took over the tank, it was literally nothing but java moss.
We're buying gravel and all kinds of stuff tomorrow, cleaning it and etc. All the java moss will be gone, all the decor will be gone. It's just going to be bogwood and the left side of the aquarium shall be tape grass. The tank should be water running by thursday, and plants by saturday. A friend is caring for the fish until around wednesday next week, and in which time, I'll be caring for his angelfish.
The only thing I'm worried about is a bacterial cycle. I could save some of the tanks water (the filter is running through it now) for later, and steal some water and.. *muck* from my brother's 10 Gallon, and/or my friend's 20 Gallon. But it's bothering me a bit.
Also, I know where the digital camera is, so new pictures will be coming.

FBG - August 6, 2007 03:40 AM (GMT)
very nice. what kind of Vals. are those? oh, :P i might fill the aquarium up if I were you, it'll give you nasty calcium build up if it stays that way for long...trust me, it's a pain to get off.
