suicidalyouth117, cichla are called peacock bass as you say , but largemouth bass are a different species all together.

by the way they look, i always thought peacock bas were panfish like largemouths and sunfish, but then again, panfish and cichlids look very similiar

Cichla are actually the holotype for Cichlids.

Cichla is the Genus name for the "Peacock Bass" group of Cichlids.

Peacock Bass are not closely related to traditional North American Bass. While both are Perchiforms and do show a lot of "convergent" evolution they are grouped in diferent families.

Bass, perch, crappie and other North American game fish are not in the family Cichlidea (ie. not Cichlids).
