my room mate have red eared sliders and we both need to up grade our tanks to 55 G or 80 G. we are very limmited on space and we cont want to put ur turtles in the same tank. so i was thinking we could do the tank this way but i have no idea how to go about doing this. This is where the grat people of TFC come into play. thanks for your help in advance.

Sin Cera,

What size tanks, and how tall is the room it needs to go in? I've built a couple of these;

A couple of 20's above a 55, with room underneath for milkcrates

A pair of 29's, with room underneath for 5 gallon buckets

You could easily skin these for a more finished appearance, mine are fishroom racks.

well as stated above we are most likely going to use a 55 G and an 80G in an over under set up with a caabinet underneith to cover the filter adn other stuff.

Ok, I should have been more specific, the measurements of the tanks are needed to help you design a double stand. Your ceiling height is needed so I can be sure there is enough room for maintenance. How much room you need, height wise for the filters would help too. Knowing your height will help make a more manageable setup.

The double 29 stands I have put the top edge of the upper tank at 6', in a room with a 6'7" ceiling. I'm 6' tall, ang need to stand on a couple of 2x6's I have nailed together to touch the bottom of the tank. I pack a lot of gear into a small room, and have little tricks like that for dealing with it, I do need the bucket storage beneath. Sometimes designing stands is give & take, if you put the lower tank too low it becomes difficult to siphon.
