I dunno.. I think it varies from Animal to animal...

some animals age differently from others

ie: dogs compared to horses... like dog years are different to horse years...
a 12 year old dog is like a 70 year old person i think...
where as a 24 year old horse is like a 70 year old person... once again.. i think

a seeing eye dog if its say a golden lab/retriever has about 10 years on it since larger dogs as they get older develop more joint/arthritis earlier on in their life.

and a work horse such as a police horse and horse sightseeing carriage ride horses, might retire around 13 because if theyre constantly being ridden/used on pavement all the time, they have more stress on their bodies..

another example is my friend angela's horse Coco.. that horse is 25 this year and still pulling in 1st place ribbons with jumping and cross country shows aswell...

It depends on the animal.... that's a kick ass subject too... youre gonna have a lot to chose from topic wise :D

I was thinking of comparing the retirement ages for search and rescue dogs and either police k9 unit dogs or racing grey hounds and what happens to them when they retire

I'd compare Police dogs to the greyhounds

because I know most police dogs retire and usually stay with their officer as a family pet... where as some greyhounds are left for garbage... and sometimes never get adopted back into a loving family...

there's a good comparison between those two i think

I think I'll try something like that. Thanx V You helped me narrow my topic a lot.
