hey guys i was just wondering something.
i have a malawi mouthbrooding cichlid and i would like to know if they keep the fish in their mouth or if they realease them as soon as they hatch. if the female is does keep them after they have hatched i would like to know how to get them out, because i have 2 cichlids that were brooding and one of them has already released and there is a mix between its young and the other females.
anywayz if u cant follow pretty much i need to get the fry out of her mouth coz she isnt lookin to good and it has been longer than 26 days. how would i go about this
replies asap would be v much appreciated

they keep them in their mouth until they're free-swimming

i think...

just a thought.. but maybe bribe her with lots of meaty foods until she swallows the eggs, ( put bloodworms in a cup, remove the worms and have blood-water, to get her excited but denied the meat. she'll crave it and crave it and eat the meatylicious eggs.. )

this *******might******* work.
but dont rely on what i say, maybe try it along-side something else.

The best way to move the fry IME is to move her, net her gently & transfer her to a holding net or tank of her own but DO NOT let her come out of the water, so in the case of a tank swap have an icecream container ready, net her then put the icecream container into the water & move the net with her into the container then lift the net & her out in the container with some water then put her in the "fry" tank.

That's to move her & not have her spit in the main tank & hence have the fry where you want them when she spits.

That being said, to make her spit the opposite is true, lift her out of the water in the net & she'll spit or swallow them 9 times out of 10.
