Title: whats your favorite plant?

FBG - November 26, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
Okay, so, here is the deal, post your favorite plant, and, give a brief description of the plant. (lighting requirements, substrate needs, etc.) and, a picture if you have the one that you personally took, or have the permission from the owner to show here. (for that, you need to show a mod the picture, and, the signature of the owner saying that you can use it.)

open to whatever plant you want, low-extreme light, fresh, or salt (meaning, algae, seaweed, if you consider those plants, I think I was told they are more like algae, but yeah) floating, attached to drift wood, or, planted directly in the 'soil', cold or tropical just have fun LOL.

Python sword. (no idea what the scientific name is, seeing as I have never found it any where online, and no one knows at the LFS)

it is growing great in my 50 gallon with mediumish size sand.

i have it as 1.5 WPG, so, a low-moderate lighting.

nothing special in the water stats.

and, when it's small, it needs iron for it to get thoes huge leaves you see in the picture, this plant is about 1 year old.

not reccomended for a small aquarium, the roots are 1/2 way accross my 4' tank as it is.

verry nice plant though, wish i could find it for sale again....

EDIT: i found out right now that the plant is considdered rare, could be why no one rearely ever sells it

Sunset Hygro, Medium to high light and dose for iron, for the red to develope. Easy to grow, kept trimmed it bushes out pretty good, A great plant for fry to hide in.
It does great in a sand substrate, but will grow in just about any kind of substrate. Mine is grown in sand with 2 watts per gal lighting.
