Title: Kenyii breeding
Description: What size do Kenyii need to reach?

tomcichlid - December 7, 2006 04:45 AM (GMT)
Hey, I have had a cichlid tank for a couple months now, and was wondering what size the fish get to before they start breeding. They are still pretty small, but one kenyii has partially changed from blue to yellow. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, it'd be helpful to know how many fish are in there and all the species of cichlid in there as well ( if any more species are present ) and exactly what size your kenyii are right now

I'm not sure about the changing color thing, but that is most likely a sign of sexual maturity.

Right now they are about 2 inches. They are in a mixed african tank. There are 2 zebras, 2 electric blues, 2 yellow labs, 2 small upside down cats, and 4 kenyii. The tank is 30 gallons. It has a gravel bottom and rock piles for hiding places. I realize there are a lot of fish for the size tank I have, and I may have to get a bigger tank at some point. But for now the fish are healthy and happy. I change the water weekly and keep track of the nitrate levels. I am just wondering if I can expect to see breeding in the tank or if the size of the fish or the conditions will not work out. Thanks,
Tom
