Well, I dunno about the eel... but umm. I have another subject;

You say this "eel" is about a foot and a half long, correct? and your aquarium is 38 gallons, correct? ( If that's not correct... what is your signature about?? ) any fish that long requires a huge tank, Much more than 38 gallons. Your tank is overstocked and is a disaster waiting to happen. Just because a fish can can fit somewhere doesn't mean it can live there. Would you live in a closet?

Not to sound mean or anything, I went through the same problem when I started in fishkeeping. The problem is that all those flashy and cool fish at LFS are the ones that need huge tanks.

Well...I think we are going to have to know exactly what it is before we can help with specifics...

Is it a "Spiny Eel", "Moray Eel" or a ture eel? Posting a picture will help. Also...see if you can get any more info from the LFS about what exactly it is...try talking to the person who does the fish order.

Do you have it in isolation or in a community tank? What size tank? What is the water chemistry of that tank? What are you feeding? It will probably accept tubifex and or bloodworms (live or frozen).
