Very nice pike mate, what sort is it? I have two Crenicichla sp "Xingu I", they are great fish.

i don't know man. i was thinking it was a crenicichla strigata, but i have heard they are rare in the hobby and from what i have read there may be more than one type of strigata. so who knows not me. you care to venture a guess? i know he's already developing some aggression, and he eats very well as you can see.:D i have better pics of him floating around in this forum i believe.

I'm no pike expert mate. They change so much from juvi to adult colouration they generally show no resemblance to each other. Strigata doesn't seem like a bad guess to me though.

yeah seems as though i'll just have to wait until he's grown out and in adult coloration to make a better guess. thanks bud i think strigata was the only one i could match him to so far.

Just been reading some stuff, have a look at Crenicichla sp Venezuela, see if that looks anything like yours.

i'm looking at pics in aqualog south american cichlid1. yeah it does bear a resemblance to a "venezuela". and mine looks to be developing that "eye spot" at the base of it's caudal fin.

i think Glaive had made that connection awhile back but for some reason at the time i didn't think it was a real match.
