Lets begin with some
J. dickfeldi shots.
One of the kids. (~1.25 inch)

One f the older kids, he is having such a rough time I am considering introducing him to the goldfish in my mother's tank.

Nifty shot.

Ahem.... A little incest, the larger one is dad and the smaller is one of his daughters... A little breeding activity, don't worry the fry have not been traded in since before my female died.

This is a ghost shrimp, one of six that was to be dinner. Courtesy of the big blue whiff master they are possibly tank mates...

The big blue whiff master himself in his newest behavior. I am beginning to think he may have damaged his eye sight, perhaps neurologically.

Thank you folks, in the last two pictures you can make out his current intestinal blockage that I am trying to work out.

awesome shots! How do you get them to look so good?! I can't get the right picture even with my new (and currently lost) digital camera.

Years of practice have given me the ability to turn out about 75% of my shots in the correct conditions.
I am not sure how knowledgeable you are of photography terms but I can provide some insight.
The most important factor is light, the more you have the easier it is to get good shots.
I would suggest reading the camera's manual and familiarizing yourself with its manual mode.
I stay zoomed out to reduce my f-stop as low as possible.
I shoot at a shutter speed of 50 (1/50th of a second).
I try to keep my iso at 100 though I will step up to 200, bigger number more sensitive to light but more grainy.
I shoot at an angle to the glass when ever possible to avoid reflection.
I also tape a bit of tissue over the flash to diffuse it, this helps prevent wash out.
I shoot with a DSLR in raw mode as opposed to JPEG mode.
This allows me to use Photoshop to correct color for the flash.
I use Photoshop to crop the image, resize it for the web, and a touch of Unsharp mask (75% | 1.0 | 1) to touch it up.

do you ever submit your stuff to magazines? Seriously- I bet the popular fish magazines would take some of your work!

I have 2 or 3 of the Julies that I would consider it, but I would honestly be a little worried about them being abused. I do appreciate the compliment though. :)
I am sure with practice you will catch up to me, the only difference is a little knowledge and experience.
