Title: Suggestions for an oddball 30 gallon tank
rgw187 - January 10, 2007 06:36 AM (GMT)
I was gifted an older tank by a friend who has suffered a recent decline in health.
The tank is 30 gallons and measures 24"w x 12"d x 24'h.Nice and tall. All though his last fish died 6 months ago,he kept everything running to preserve the bacteria.
When I moved the tank to my home we emptied all but 5 inches of water so that the gravel stayed fully immersed.Unfortunately the filter system was old and brittle,so it broke in several places and had to be replaced.
After refilling with water,I added 3 female Betta's,(very young, see my post in appropriate thread)to recycle.
What I want now are some stocking suggestions. What I want are fish who are small(2 to 4 inches)peaceful, and colorful.NO TETRAS OR DANIOS.Keep in mind that this tank is Much taller than a normal thirty gallon. Also the new filter is meant for a fifty gallon tank so there is a little room for overstocking.

Here's a link for clouds
http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_tanictis.phpThey are not a tetra.. I think they're a cyprinid.
Or, you could go for some rainbowfish, or harlequin rasbora.

Thanx for the link.I'll be going back to that one alot. The Rasboras look promising, and I can get those at the lfs.Think I'll go over there today and make a list, then look them up.
Thanx again.
The only problem I have with tetras is they are stupid and kill themselves in stupid ways.I once watched one swim up a filter intake and get chopped to pieces by the impeller.

That's worse than mine swimming into my Betta and Pleco's mouths!

Well, going to the lfs wuz a mistake. They were having a sale and I bought 2 more 2 1/2 gallon tanks.Damned MTS.The wife has made some viscous threats if I bring home any more :bash: :guns: :rip: .
Reminding her that SHE got me started in this hobby was NOT a good move. :gun:
Hey dtroup,we might as well admit that tetras aren't just stupid. They are suicidal as well.
