Title: Low Ph, how do I adjust
Description: Angel's in 55g

I got my Angel in her new home, but my ph is low- about 6.5. It's the same as her old tank was, so it doesn't seem to be bothering her. I tried some "Buffer up", but it looks like it did nothing, are these safe to use or is there something else I can do? What's the most accurate ph test? I had an old Wardley that was totally inaccurate.
I'm due for water softerner (Neutrafilt I think?) is this safe for the fish? I'd been using spring water in the smaller tanks, but that's expensive in a 55.
Angel seems to be doing well, but I'd like to get this ph thing sorted out before I add anyone else.
Thanks guys-

i honestly would not worry about the ph especially if they have already been acclimated to it and are living healthy and active lives. a constant stable ph is the most important thing. i use the dip strips for quick reference but i think any of the liquid drip tests are more accurate from what i have heard.

I believe angel's prefer that range anyways.

Okay thanks guys-
I'm thinking about adding some jumbo danios, another angel, a couple of shrimp, and a bristlenose pleico, per recs from all of you. Is this ph good for everyone or should I reconsider choices? I really appreciate all of the input. I grew up with fish and loved them, but my older sis did all the work, and unfortunately I didn't ask many questions.

I don't think the pH would be a problem however I am not 100% sure about the tank mates. I honestly do not know if an angel would view shrimp as dinner. I would wait for other responces.

Remember the rule in the fish world "If you can fit in my mouth, you will" ...
also remember that although Angels are suited to community tanks they are still Cichlids and as such can decide not to play nice if they so choose. I would suggest that if you go with shrimp you
1, buy cheep ones just in case your Angel develops a taste for them, Ghost Shrimp are about 15-50cents at most places, if they want more than 50cents go someplace elce to get them
2, make sure they have places to hide, bushy plants and driftwood work well

Just to add that my angels are in a ph of 6 and maybe just slightly below that, so yours will be fine.
Keep an eye on your kh levels as well because at such a low ph these may become unsteady faster than at a higher ph.
As you havent had any problems so far then its just a precaution.
Do you buy your fish from somewhere quite close? If so then the chances are the fish there will be in the same type of water so wont be a problem.

I actually have my own well. My store is on city water, but we'll keep our fingers crossed. thanks for the heads up on the shrimp. I'll get them somewhere to hide>
