Title: Well seeing as im back
Description: Lets talk oddballs!

Oddball - January 26, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
Well guys with myself settling into my new place, my first order of business was to set up my first tank, a 250 litre tank that is currently being filtered by 2 fluval 305 filters! yes its overkill but ill explain the theory!

Im an oddball keeper (duh oddy, tell us someting new) and i love to keep them, but oddballs tend to not be very co habitable.

I intend to have 3 tanks in my living room and thats it, being 2 x 250 litre oddball/catfish communities and 1 600litre specemin cat tank.

the 600 lite is going to hold a red tail tiger shovel hypbrid, sandy bottom, magrove tangle. i plan to run a sump filtration and just have this beast on the back wall for all to see him just cruise around, or sit there like a lump of pudding as i see them do oh so often!

the 250 litre tanks are each going to be filtered off of a fluval 305, just that i can mature both while i use this tank as a holding tank.

One tank will hold a reticulated ray (i curruntly have her in the holding tank now) and maybe house 3/5 Channa bleheri Dwarf rainbow snake head) and 2 ancisterous plecos. i realise that plecs arent considered good tank mates for rays, which is why i intend to move them to the other 250 tank when i have it, and i wont be buying them untill the other tank is ready! My ray ias feeding well and is adapting well to her new home, chasing some gaint rockshrimps around as she pleases

tank 2 will house 2 polypterus senegalus, 2 rocket farfish and a spiny eel as well as two synodontis petricola and one syno eupterus.

Any comments and thoughts would be appreciated, i dont aim to rush around, and the good news is my local stores can order all of these fish for me

Just be careful that they order the right # of fish for you......Redtail Catfish come to mind  :lmao:

Oddball - January 27, 2007 09:03 AM (GMT)
yes i remembe tht incident well! The store im ordering the hybird form has a "no giant fish policy"

that is to say they dont order fish such as pirana, pacu, red tail cats, giant gouramis etc for general consumption due to their end size and difficulity to keep, so they only order them in ones or twos if they are satisfied that the customer can care for it

Gotta pic of that hybrid catfish? Sounds interesting.

Personally i dont have a pic or the fish yet, but i did find a site with a ROUGH picture on it, so heres the link:

Shovelnose/rtc hybrid

as the article explains ther are many colour morphs as there ae many crosses that can be made, the one the store is reserving RTC colouring with no spots (white belly, grey top, red tail) but shovelnose shaped

Oddball - January 31, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
Well apparently its a month before they can be ordered, and a 2 week quarantine......sigh

Still its silly threads of "check out my cool new fish" that prompts me to go COOOL im buying one of them

Hmmm personally i hope its a female they retain the nice pink belly, but time shall tell
