Title: my pleco

dtroup - January 31, 2007 11:46 PM (GMT)
This guy was about 2 1/2 inches long when I got him about 3 months ago, I think, he is now about 6 inches long. He is a charicter, he has always been camera shy but now he's big enough that it's harder to hide from the camera. These are about the best shots I've gotten so far but I'm learning....slowly.

Nice fish dtroup, looks like a "Gibbiceps", is it ?, I have one of those, they are a lovely fish, yeah they do grow fast and produce a LOT of waste but they are worth it !!!!!

Thanks, I don't know exactly what he is which is why I posted the pics.

He is such a character, he guards the shrimp pellets from the larger Plattys but lets the fry eat what they want. He is also the one who spread out the Java Moss, he likes to hide in it and keep the fry company.

looks like he could be a gibby(sailfin), Dot. hard to tell from the pics though. did you have a look on planet catfish?

Dot,

How were you adding external light in the first pictures?
It looks like you had a lot off light that was reflecting off of the front glass.
If you were pointing a light at the front of the tank, can you try taking that same light and pointing it through the top with the lid off?
Then use the glass and shoot at an angle to the glass.
Shoot in the highest quality you can and send the best original to my email.

If I remember correctly, the first pics were with the flash holding the camera at an angle to the glass, I know that the other ones were with my reptile light across the top of the tank for more light, but the tank is so deep and has so much plant matter that it didn't help much if at all. On payday I plan on buying another pack of 100Watt bulbs to put in for taking pics, Hubby will just have to live with it, when I'm done I'll remove them and put the lower wattage ones back in.

I'm also thinking that I may have to remove the floating driftwood to reduce shadows.

On your cardboard suggestion, now that you know what I'm working with, were you saying to follow the line of the reflector and take pics from above?

I probably won't be able to play with it till Thursday or Friday, if Hubby doesn't have remodeling plans for the RV.

By cardboard I meant to shield the space between the tank top and the fixture so that the light did not bleed out and cause the camera settings to be off.

OK, I get it and will try when I get the chance.

OK courtesy of insomnia yesterday I had a chance to check Planet Catfish for pics, I'm pretty sure he is a Gibbiceps, and thinking about my old Gibby I realised that they both grew like weeds and eat like pigs. The other one didn't get this big before I got rid of him with the tank.
