Title: Brown algae
Description: In Newly cycled (ing) tank

I think my tank 55g is just about cycled, ammonia seems to be almost non-existant, showing nitrites/trates, but I'm seeing a fair amount of brown algae on stones and in other places. I put some nice river stone from my pond in that I'd cleaned with a mild chlorine solution but I guess not enough. Do I need to get rid of this? Should I introduce a pleico ( I have my two angels 5 jumbo danios and two shrimp so far)? Should I use an algacide? I'll do a small change tomorrow, so if I need to do anything I'd love some advice.
Thanks as always-

sounds like diatoms to me. pretty common with fresh set ups. i wouldn't worry about it. it took some of my tanks a few months to clear up, not a big deal in my opinion, just a bit more cleaning at water change time.:)

I agree, it does sound like diatoms (brown algae). They live off silicates that can come from tap water, substrate, or even from the glass of a new tank. The good news is that they are easily wiped off and in a few months, they will disappear on their own.
