i was wondering if you any one could atempt to dignoce my oscars gill, one person said it mght be an infection the other dont think he said its a deformation and if it was an infection his fins would be down

and one just for shits and giggels
Is there any thing wrong with it's eye, too? In the top pic.
edit;Ok,I checked some data bases and a couple of references, but we need more info.A deformity would have been obvious for a while.
How long has the gill been like this?
Does the poor thing show any signs of distress?
What are your water parameters?
What,if any,are the other tank mates?
oops i just realised that i posted on my g/fs name any who, its been like that since about 2weeks after i got him un less i dident really notice it, ive had him since
Dec 2nd he dosent show any signes of any thign beeing rong at all verry happy pepy fish allwas comes to the front of the tank when i walk in eats normal no gasping, i cant give any parameters since i have no test kit i have to wait till i get my check from work, i do 50% water changes evry 2 days and he has no tank mates or decor
How big is he?
You may be changing the water too often for your bacteria colony to keep up with ( I honestly NEVER thought that I'd ever have to say someone was changing their water too often  )
I recall you mentioning that he has a new home coming soon, if he is 4 inches or less and you are not over feeding him or giving him feeder fish you should be able to get away with 25-50% W/C once a week until you get his new house set up.
I highly reccomend getting a test kit that covers Ph, Ammonia, Nitrates and Nitrites, I prefer the kind that has drops and test tubes over the dip strips for cost reasons as well as the fact that I don't have to test everything every time, if I'm worried about Nitrates I test for just that, and the dip strips I had cost about 40 cents per test.
