Hi there, most of you know me quite well, some of you dont! The truth of the matter is im an oddball/catfish fanatic and im fairly addicted :P
Recently i re established contact with an old friend of mine called Dan, who runs a nifty little site called
Tropical Imports. Intrigued i shot over to check out the site. Its a marvelous little ordering and import site that stocks a wide variety or rare/oddball/specialist fish.
The stock list changes monthly, and Dan does take requests (so if your busting for something he will look for it for you)
The site runs through paypal, so theres no major money worries, all you have to do is compile an e-mail with what you would like, and send it him to see if theres any instock, if there is he will let you know and arrange for payment, delivery time and address at that point!
I recently ordered 3 x flagtail prochilodius that he had at 3 inch each for a cost of £25 and 1 x Sturio (wolf/sturgeon catfish) at 8 inch for £45. Let me tell you i was a tad skeptical as my LFS has prochilodius at £35 each and i bought their 8 inch sturio for £145! yes £145!!!!
Well ive recieved my order today and im amzazed the 3inch prochis are in fact 3-6 inches in size, and the sturio is MUCH larger than the one i have at the moment, so not only is he modest with measurement but very good value for money.
I spoke to him this morning and he was telling me that the sturio got tangled in the nets and if i had a problem with him i could return it, i see nothing wrong bar a ripped pectoral fin, but the curtesy of allowing a return is quite nice dont you think?
The policy on returns is quite simple tbh. If its Dead On Arrival, take a photograph and email it him and he will arrange for a replacement (you still have to pay shipping but you cant win them all) and likewise if the fish looks pikey again take a photo so that if it does end up dead you and him have a record of the fish being like that on arrival.
In anycase this isnt in no way a PR thing for a friends site, and I ahve checked it out with the other mods. If you wish to see pics of the fish they are still on his site on the stocklist, so please go and take a look!
