Title: about Trichopodus pectoralis (snakeskin gourami)

I just got a 'new' fish that my LFS has never carried today. a snake skin gourami or Trichopodus pectoralis i believe. well, i was reading up on it when i got home, and one sorce said it lives in and around plants, but another one, said that they will eat plants. I have never had a gourami that has ate my plants, maybe algae but, I'd just like to make sure before i realease his for good into my planted aquarium (display tank) and have it ruin all my plants. :)
but a great deal, he/she is 4" and only 3.99. took the lady 10 min to catch the one I wanted, but worth it i guess
I'll try and get some photos of him when my dad brings the digital back.

Snakeskin gouramis are among the most peaceful of gourami, but they are also one of the least popular. Not necessarily rare, but nobody knows about them and few people have them. They'll grow to around 10 inches and I wouldn't be surprised if they ate plants.
I've been planning on getting a snakeskin gourami, they look cool. Green is good.

well, one thing that i have found out about them since i brought em' home well, all my trumpet snails were floating after about 7 hours in my display aquarium. so right now I just got done taking about 100 snails out. :woo:  jay so he has already earned his keep!
from all the sources i read he gets to be around 8-10" depending on the sex. I'm hoping he'll kill algae ant not all my large crypts LOL. but if i see anything leaf damage wise I'll take him out, and put him in my 75 gallon. currently he is in a 50 gallon with only 4 danios and an angle so I think he should be ok in there depending on how active he is.
tomorrow I'll try and get a picture of 'em right now he is a little stressed because my hand was fishing for snails for so long :bitchslap:...... so I'll try and keep you guys updated!

Here she (I think it's a she.) is, a pretty good looking fish. this is where she was for about 2 hours after i put her in the aquarium. but she's not as scared now as she was when i first got her.
Oh, a little question, she hasn't eaten a lot of the flakes when i feed, every site I looked at said that they will eat flakes, but she seems to only 2 or three flakes. Is there another type of food i need to get for her?

It's fin looks round like a females, yet slightly pointed like a males. Gotta wait for finding out.
You've only had him/er a few days, so snaky is probably still adapting, or if snaky is like some fish that won't eat if they feel they're home is big.. S/he is bound to get more hungry and more interested in eating when s/he is bigger
It's a very nice looking fish, I wonder if it will become a green snakeskin, :D
