Title: Angel picking on gourami

FBG - December 5, 2007 12:23 AM (GMT)
Ok, so I just noticed about a few weeks ago the my angel has started to pick on my Snakeskin gourami, and I see a few scales missing, should I take the goruami out and try and find a place for him in another aquarium? every thing is full except my neglected 75 gallon ( i haven't really had money to do any thing for my 75 so I have not stocked it yet)

I just went into the living room and I found him almost stuck to the filter. he has started hiding as of late.

This has come about due to the angels most basic instinct, territory. Angels are basically a cichlid, even they dont look it, and cichlids are most bothered about territory and breeding when adult.

It is possible that when you remove the gorami that he will simply switch to another fish, or it may be that the patterning or body structure some how remind your angel of a rival fish and he has a desire to see the competition off.

The easiest thing to do, in my mind, would be to purchase a few more angels and run them in the 75 and try to get a breeding pair out of them, just as a little hobby and leave the gourami in peace!

alright, that seems like a good idea.I'll try to clean my 75 out and move him and more buddies into the 75, and a good thing, my LFS is having a 50% off all fish this Saturday! so I'll try and pick up a few of them there. and maybe a bit more if I have the money.

Thanks Odd

EDIT: fixed spelling

I agree with Oddy, just give the Angel his own house and a few friends.
Maybe if you get a pair you can trade the offspring to your LFS for equipment.

Ok, so today I 1/2 way cleaned the 75 gallon, and tonight I went to the LFS's yearly sale and got 5 more anangel's that look pretty good. tomorrow I'll show pics If It's finished

( I got the fish 1/2 at only $4.00.)
